Religion and Politics

Oxford University Summer Course

This seminar was aimed at analysing historical and contemporary development of religious discourse regarding state and political power. A comparative framework is used to better frame the religious political discourse with relation to three western religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and their relation with western and regional political discourses. Both politicized narratives and religious secular ideologies are scrutinized in order to provide a better understanding of the ideological underpinnings of numerous contemporary claims to transcendental entitlement to public power and political sovereignty.
